The role of collective action for Net Zero targets

During New York Climate Week in 2023, Autumn Fox, Climate Sustainability Senior Manager at Mars, explained the Scope 3 targets Mars has set, and what collective action on Scope 3 emissions means to them.

How is Mars working towards Net Zero?

Autumn Fox explains that Mars needs to reduce their emissions by 80% by 2050. To do this, they have set 5-year milestones for 2025 and 2030, and their Net Zero Roadmap goes into detail on how to do that across Scopes 1, 2 and 3.

Mars is a big organisation with tens of thousands of suppliers across different functions. This means that understanding every source of emissions is a huge data endeavour, so Mars works on the basis of continuous improvement for the accounting of their emissions footprint.

How can collective action help tackle the Scope 3 challenge?

Autumn Fox highlights that we need complete societal and business transformation, as well as transformation of supply chains, for a healthy climate. This necessitates collaboration to bring larger scale change to life.
