Carbon Positive by 2025 Makes Business Sense
Barry Callebaut’s Forever Chocolate program is committed to making sustainable chocolate the norm by 2025. This ambitious initiative focuses on key sustainability goals, including lifting over 500,000 cocoa farmers out of poverty, eradicating child labor, achieving carbon and forest-positive production, and using 100% sustainable ingredients.
In partnership with Gold Standard’s ValueChange program, Barry Callebaut is implementing supply chain interventions that support sustainable cocoa farming. These interventions include nature-based carbon removal activities such as planting cocoa and non-cocoa trees to increase carbon sequestration and diversify farmer incomes. Additionally, emission reduction projects, like distributing cookstoves and solar home systems, deliver climate and community benefits.
Verified results include over 90,000 tones of CO2e reduced or sequestered, and 184,623 cocoa farmers lifted out of poverty. This pioneering effort is shaping a more sustainable future for cocoa production while reducing Scope 3 emissions.
