Recruitment open for the fifth Food & Agriculture working group

Recruitment open for the fifth Food & Agriculture working group

The Value Change Initiative (VCI) is pleased to announce that recruitment for members of the new Food & Agriculture working group is now open, ahead of its launch in November 2024.

This working group will bring together Scope 3 experts with some of the world’s leading food and agriculture organisations, as well as standards and NGOs. The goal of the VCI is to co-develop actionable, sector-specific guidance and solutions for the industry’s most pressing challenges to reduce emissions in the value chain and scale action.

This fifth iteration of the Food & Agriculture working group will build on the work of previous editions and further develop the VCI guidance to ensure it effectively addresses the complexities of Scope 3 accounting across diverse commodities in the Food and Agriculture sector. Following the November 2024 start, work will continue with further sessions throughout 2025, before an eventual publication in early 2026.

The focus of this edition will be co-defined by the members of the group in the opening kickoff. With the Food and Agriculture sector directly responsible for around one quarter of total global CO2eq emissions, and a majority of these emissions coming from Scope 3, it is crucial that players in the sector come together to develop actionable solutions to the challenges they face in reducing emissions from their value chains.  By the conclusion of this working group, the members will develop an addendum to the already existing Food & Agriculture guidance for Scope 3 accounting, a key step on the journey towards the shared goal of Net Zero by 2050.
